The Future Economy and Industry Committee of the Jeju Provincial Council, along with the Alliance for Resource & Climate Justice Center, Pacific Environment, Korea NGO’s Energy Network, and the Energy Transition Forum Korea, will hold a policy debate on October 8 at 2:00 PM in the Main Conference Room of the Jeju Provincial Council. This forum aims to propose the establishment of the “Jeju-type Wind Power O&M Support Cluster”—a key pledge of the Jeju provincial administration—as a fully RE100-compliant initiative.

This debate is designed to explore ways in which local offshore wind power can accelerate regional RE100 goals and ultimately lead to the development of RE100 ports. This vision builds upon the RE100 integration of the Jeju-type Wind Power O&M Support Cluster, which will feature an offshore wind O&M center and a spare parts hub currently being promoted by Jeju Province. Through this, we aim to propose a unique offshore wind industry model for Jeju, one where offshore wind power connects with related industries and RE100 industrial complexes, thereby expanding into a broader offshore wind industrial ecosystem.

The session will begin with a presentation on “Domestic and International Trends and Cases of RE100 Implementation in Ports and Port Facilities” by Soh Yoon-mie, Policy Director of the Energy Transition Forum Korea, followed by “Cases of Overseas O&M Ports and Domestic Offshore Wind Support Ports” by Dr. Kwak Sung-Jo of the Korea Institute of Energy Research (KIER). Finally, Director Kim Jung-Do of the Alliance for Resource & Climate Justice Center will present “Integration Strategies with the Pledges of the 9th Jeju Provincial Administration for the Establishment of the Jeju-type RE100 Offshore Wind O&M Support Cluster.”

Following the presentations, Han Kwon, a member of the Future Economy and Industry Committee of the Jeju Provincial Council, will moderate a comprehensive panel discussion. The panelists include:

  • Yoon Hyung-seok, Industry-Academic Cooperation Professor at Jeju National University
  • Kim Jong-ik, Chairman of  Research Institute WinWinTree
  • Park Ji-woong, Wind Power Sales Team Leader at Doosan Enerbility
  • Kim Kwan-hyun, Director of the Climate and Energy Policy Division, Jeju Province

The panel will deeply examine the necessity and current challenges of transitioning the Jeju-type Wind Power O&M Cluster to RE100. Furthermore, they will discuss its potential for expansion into RE100 ports, ensuring that the Jeju-type RE100 Wind Power O&M Support Cluster can serve as a catalyst driving RE100 achievement across the entire maritime industry, including ports.

We kindly ask for the strong interest and participation of all relevant stakeholders in this debate. Thank you.
